I am a huge believer that in Real Estate, first impressions are everything.

And when selling a home, the exterior of your home is the first thing buyers will notice in photos and when viewing in person.

If your budget allows you to paint your whole exterior, that will increase curb appeal drastically.

If your budget doesn't allow for painting the whole exterior, why not focus on the place potential buyers will see first?

The #1 secret to selling your home is...to paint your front door!

I know, I know, it's not rocket science but it is a much overlooked aspect to preparing your home to sell.

I love classic combinations such as a black door on a white house, or a brick red door on a gray house. Here are some fun ideas

Changing the color of your door can provide an instant face lift, is cheap and can be done in one day. So what are you waiting for?

Here are some tips when painting your front door:

1. Lightly sand the door to remove imperfections. You can putty small holes or dings if you really want a smooth surface.

2. Clean the door with a wet rag, let dry.

3. Remove door handle. Begin painting in starting from the top down, and immediately smooth any drips. I prefer satin finish outdoor paint, just stay away from flat finish.

4. 2 coats should suffice, but when painting over darker colors use a primer or just do multiple coats.

5. Let dry.

6. This would be a great time to update your door handle. Very inexpensive way to add value and curb appeal to your home.
