As a military wife who has frequently moved, I have discovered that with a few minor tweaks and some planning, moving can actually be fun! (Just kidding).
Here are my top tips for moving.
1. Less stuff=less clutter=less stress.
Purging your home before the packers come or you begin to pack helps simplify the process.
The more stuff to move, the more to pack, the harder it is and the more time it takes.
I love the process of moving and starting fresh. It helps me to assess all I have, what I really need and what I can do without.

2. Find boxes for free.
Boxes are not cheap.
Try to find gently used boxes for deep discounts off Craigslist, Nextdoor, Facebook groups etc. You could also ask stores if they will kindly donate boxes to you for free.People are always moving, and wanting to get rid of boxes.
You can also use large heavy duty bins if you are doing a local move.
3.Duct tape solves everything, well almost everything.
When you are packing up your stuff, color coding boxes with duct tape helps keep the boxes organized by space.
Once you arrive at your new home, the unpacking process will go much more smoothly.
My favorite is pink cheetah print duct tape, but any colors will do. Just make sure to clearly label what is in the boxes as well. This will also help the packers place boxes in the correct rooms (hopefully).

4. Dedicate one bathroom to 'DO NOT PACK' status when movers come.
Set aside all the items you do not want put on the moving truck (clothing, sentimental items etc) and keep them in one area (a small bathroom is perfect).
Clearly label this room as off limits to movers by placing a sign taped securely to the door. Communicate to the movers this room is not to be packed.

5. Keep the essentials with you.
Items like toilet paper, pillows, baby wipes, favorite blankets, car ride snacks, important paperwork etc. should be set aside and placed in the DO NOT PACK area.
